Illustration Friday - Robot

I'm very late on this theme as I wanted to do something less organic with TwistedBrush, but was slowed down as my desktop dies on me every hour or so due to the faulty cpu fan.

Robots are as common as cars when one works in a manufacturing plant. I pass by them daily not knowing what their actual function is as I am not an engineer. But I do believe robots will soon, very soon, be common in our homes. It’s the only way to go.

We used to have a robot “runner” in this plant, to run documents and little packages between departments and work stations. She runs on batteries I think, and navigates by a magnetic strip on the floor along her route. Unfortunately, Malaysians being Malaysians, some workers found it amusing to give her a kick whenever she comes along down her route. You see, she has censors that will stop her in her tracks and trigger a female voice recording that goes “Excuse me! Excuse me!” if an obstacle is in front of her. So now the robot is replaced by a HUMAN.

Sigh! So much for moving ahead with technology!

Illustration Friday - Spotted

It’s funny that the first thing that came to my mind when I received ‘spotted’ from Illoannaunce was the English dish ‘Spotted Dick’ Ha! Ha! That would be ridiculous to draw now, if not impossible for me.

I am still high on colors rather than form it seems, so I’ll just continue with my sea- creature theme. It’s a Red Sea Bass, the last time I saw this fish was in the wet market of Dungun, Trengganu (East Coast, West Malaysia), the red is so vibrant that it seems to glow. Wonder how it would taste in a curry dish….

Question: Sea Bass = Ikan Siakap? Can anyone confirm this?

**Correction - I've just found out that it's not a Sea Bass, it's actually a Spotted Coral Cod!

Of Flying Shrimps, Cousins, 7Eleven & A Wedding Reception In A Kampong

I am too tired to even lift a stick of crayon today, so I have no new doodles to upload for this week. I think the photos I've put up instead will explain what happened over the weekend and why I feel like a dead sotong now :)

Flying Shrimps !!!

Tentacles Part II

I can’t explain this current fixation (visual) I have with the underside of an octopus’ tentacles. Is it the symmetry of the suckers? The light purple hue? I'm not quite sure, but I just love them.

Oh yeah, and I love em braised in tomato sauce, simmered in sambal tumis, raw dipped in wasabi laden soya sauce. (if there’s other ways to eat them, please do share) Yums!
Not much flavour, but the texture makes up for it. :P

Waiting

A dancer awaits her call at Moulin Rouge.

From Carla Coulson's photographs.

I was trying to capture the deep emerald of her plumes. I'm not there yet :(
